DAY 1 |
Leh - Bodkharbu (6 hours) After breakfast drive to Bodkharbu in the Kargil District (about 160km). Rest for the day, explore the village and monastery. O/N in tent. |
DAY 2 |
Bodkharbu - Kharbu Do (3 hours) First day of easy trek from the lower part of the valley to the upper part. O/N camp in tent at Kharbu Do village. |
DAY 3 |
Kharbu Do - Whado (5-6 hours) Trek starts from the right side of the camp site at Kharbu Do through a narrow valley. Walk uphill gradually to reach the Namki-La (also called Kharbu-La. Beautiful scenic view from the pass. Trek downhill on a very isolated trail for one hour and reach the camp site near a river bank and fish pond at Whado. Opportunity to visit the nunnery of Wakha about 30 minutes extra walk from the camp. O/N in tent. |
DAY 4 |
Whado - Serzing (5 hours) The trek leads to the left of the open field terrace. En route you pass through Muslims and Buddhist villages and see many old mani-walls and mosques. Continue the trek to another beautiful village called Shargola inhabited by both Buddhists and Muslims. One hour walk to the day destination of Serzing. O/N in tent. |
DAY 5 |
Serzing - Urgyanzong (5-6 hours) Today's trek is very exciting, see different shapes of Buddhist rock arts. O/N at Urgyanzong. |
DAY 6 |
Urgyanzong - Serzing (3-4 hours) Several routes lead to Serzing from Urgyanzong. O/N at Serzing. |
DAY 7 |
Serzing - Chomo Shukpa (3-4 hours) The trek starts on the left side of the mountain. Chomo Shukpa is a sacred place of the Fokar Lha deity which is believed to be appointed by Guru Padmasambava for the protection of The Buddhist Dharma. A small monastery is devoted to Fokar Lha. The village consists of about 70 families, our camp site is on the left side of the village. |
DAY 8 |
Chomo Shukpa - Sapi (5-6 hours) Today cross the Sapi-La, the highest pass in the village which consists of 30 families. This village is isolated for 7-8 months during the winter due to excessive snowfall. Visit the peaceful Sapi monastery. O/N at Sapi village. |
DAY 9 |
Sapi - Sapi Lake (5-6 hours) One day trek to the popular and sacred Sapi lake. O/N at Sapi camp. |
DAY 10 |
Sapi Lake - Sapi One day trek back to Sapi village. O/N camp. |
DAY 11 |
Sapi - Kartse Khar (5 hours) Trek to Kartse Khar and visit the famous rock statue of Maitreya. Drive to Wakha Nunnery for O/N.
